TRIDENT, the 4yo Gelding by Deep Field out of Miss Fi, having his 2nd start for the 2023 season, proved too strong for his opposition in the Class 4 1400m Turf event at Singapore’s Kranji Racecourse. Ridden by Benny Woodworth, a late replacement for Vlad Duric who was indisposed, he was away nicely and Benny had him in a nice forward position just behind the speed. Presented for a run on turning for home, Trident steadily gathered in the leaders, hit the front with 200m to go and then staved off a strong finishing run by Pacific Star, going to the finish line with a half length margin

Trainer, Donna Logan, who had produced another winner earlier in the day for Fortuna Racing in ROCKY, said after the race “Trident was beautifully ridden by Benny, he had him just in the run where I wanted him to be and fought off the challengers in the run home like a good horse – congratulations to John Galvin – the Fortuna Team is on fire today”
Fortuna Director, John Galvin, who had already tasted success with two earlier winners in the day, Inca Belle at Tauranga and Rocky in Singapore, was watching the race from his Hamilton home and, understandably, was a very happy man ” Trident is a horse who seems to have a lot of quality about him, that was a good strong win for just his 2nd start this preparation, very well ridden by Benny and toughed it out to the finishing line. Congrats to Donna, Peter Woods and all of the training team – these sort of days with three wins for the day are what you dream about. And well done to the ownership group for supporting the tramsfer of Trident to Singapore – the decision is certainly paying dividends for them.”

Winning connections after the race
TRIDENT, bred by Mrs H G & W G Bax & JML Bloodstock Ltd, was offered for sale at the 2020 Karaka Book One Sale by Blandford Lodge and was acquired by Davis Ellis on behalf of Fortuna Racing for $70,000 – initially prepared in NZ by Jamie Richards, and with the racename POLARIS, he had three starts in the Spring of 2021 for a 3rd and two 4ths – believing that he would be a 3yo who would benefit from a bit more maturity and development, Jamie recommended that his Ownership Group should consider relocating him to Singapore for his future racing career, a recommendation that was taken up by the majority of his ownership group. Trident has now had nine Singapore starts for three wins, three 2nds and has earned over S$145,000 for his ownership group consisting of 49 individuals from NZ, Australia, Singapore and Hong Kong
