FAQs

Each syndicate is managed by the Manager (John Galvin), on behalf of its members. Each member of a New Zealand based syndicate is registered as an owner with NZ Thoroughbred Racing and of a Singapore based Syndicate as part of the Fortuna NZ Stable. Members pay an Initial Contribution into the syndicate bank account and the manager uses those funds to pay for the Syndicate's bloodstock and pay all other initial costs incurred by the syndicate. Syndicate Members then make a regular monthly Ongoing Contribution to the Syndicate Bank account to cover training fees and other expenses. The Manager will pay out any cash received from winning stakes or from the sale of the Syndicate’s bloodstock to members, based on their share percentage.
You can spend as much or as little as you like. It’s easy and affordable to be involved. No matter what percentage you own, we’ll aim to make you feel like the sole owner of your horse. We’ll ensure your racing experience is enjoyable and carefree, and can guarantee you a great time.
  1. Work out your budget – there are two things to consider – firstly the amount of Initial Contribution you are able to commit and, secondly, take into account the need for Ongoing Contribution.
  2. Read the Syndicate Disclosure Statement and Agreement.
  3. Make payment (by Credit Card or Bank Transfer) for the Initial Contribution.
  4. Set up payment method for Ongoing Contributions.
We accept payment via:
  • Credit Cards
  • Direct Debit
Note: If you live outside New Zealand, Direct Debit from your bank may not be possible and any transfers will attract International Bank Transfer Fees, so setting up a Direct Debit from credit card may be a better option. Alternatively, you could prepay your Monthly Contributions for 6 or 12 months in advance.
Costs associated with the preparation, training, racing and administration of the syndicate bloodstock.
Plenty, including genuine ownership of the percentage share of your racehorse. You’ll forge friendships with like-minded people as you live the racing dream, and make memories that last a lifetime. The thrill of watching your own horse thundering down the straight; the roar of the crowd; the fashion; the champagne; the friends; the excitement you get from a day at the races watching your own horse is second to none. It’s called the ‘Sport of Kings’ for a reason – it’s how it makes the owners feel. The greatest feeling in the world is seeing your racehorse cross the finish line in first position. That ‘winning feeling’ is hard to replicate. You’ll also get your percentage of prize money earned.
  • Regular stable visits
Away from the racecourse, you can come for as many stable visits as you like. This is where you’ll see the physical changes and developments your horse has made throughout its training. You can also attend the various trials that your horse will compete in ahead of race day. The best part is – you’ll be part of the Fortuna family.
  • Racetrack privileges
Race days are heart-poundingly exciting but they’re just the tip of the iceberg. On race day, you can expect to have pre-race jitters and a ticket into the ‘Members’ Area’. You’ll also receive an ‘Owners’ Pass’ to get the final ‘inside word’ from your trainer and jockey prior to the race. In other words, you’re right in the middle of the action, and there’s nothing quite like it. Following the race, you’re welcomed into the track’s designated ‘Owners Room’ to discuss the race, and enjoy a glass of champagne with your friendly co-owners. Post-race, a detailed summary of how your horse has performed with Trainer’s post-race comments. A video clip of the race and ongoing race plans will be communicated to you.
  • World-class communication
We pride ourselves on keeping you completely up-to-date. From the day you select your horse, you’ll enjoy consistent updates throughout the various educational stages of its life, including:
  1. the breaking in process at the farm after its acquisition at auction
  2. its time in the paddock when growing and developing and;
  3. its first time at the stable to learn what life in a racing stable is all about
We’ll find out how you prefer to be contacted and get in touch every time your horse is entered or has run (if you couldn’t make it to the races) etc. Regular emails, progress pictures, newsletters, video clips and audio files, phone calls and text messages are our primary forms of contact. You’ll always know what your horse is up to! We take care of all the admin and arrangements relating to your horse so you can just relax and enjoy the racing.
  • Risk
Thoroughbred racing has its risks, and these need to be recognized right from the start. Fortuna engages highly skilled professionals to minimize the risks, and improves the odds of success through excellent bloodstock selection policies, top quality bloodstock handling and training methods and professional racing management. We cannot guarantee that your racehorse will win every race, but we can guarantee you highly professional service, first class communications, great camaraderie with fellow syndicate members and a great ownership experience.
Yes, we insure your horse against death. You’ll have the peace of mind knowing that your outlay is immediately protected. We take care of the insurance admin for you.
