This strapping Gelding was acquired by Cambridge based Trainer, Diane Kennedy, as a yearling from a Gavelhouse Auction. She took him along quietly and was very patient with him not giving him his first public trial until he was a Spring 5yo (15th August 2023) – this was a winning trial. He then had one race day start over 1400m (Matamata 27th August) where he finished a fast finishing 5th. Diane then decided to offer the horse for sale, he was bought to John Galvin’s attention by Bloodstock Agent, Phill Cataldo.
John and Te Akau Racing’s Trainer Mark Walker, conducted due diligence on ZEDWILLDO and physically inspected him on 30th August – liking what they saw, the Waikato Equine Vet, Dr Ronan Costello, was engaged to conduct a full Vet check including physical examination, scoping before and after exercise and X Rays. The horse passed with flying colours
Nicknamed “DEZ”, ZEDWILLDO is now in full work at the Matamata Stables of Te Akau Racing, is set to trial at Te Rapa 26th September and after that he will be shipped to Australia where he will be based at the Te Akau Racing Stables at Cranbourne and he will do his future racing in Australia

Racing Plans
Now in the hands of the Te Akau Trainers, Mark Walker and Sam Bergerson, ZEDWILLDO will trial at Te Rapa 26th September and then will travel to Victoria where he will join Mark Walker’s Te Akau Racing Stables at Cranbourne and he will make his Australian debut early/mid October at either a 1700m or 1800m trip
Trainer’s view (Mark Walker)
“John, I really love this horse – he has a great action, I just loved the way he powered home under testing conditions at Avondale in his trial and his debut raceday performance on a much firmer track had a lot of merit also – he deserves to have his racing opportunity in Victoria – there are just so many more opportunities for staying types like this bloke in Victoria as they go through the grades – and for wonderful prizemoney also. And of course, if he proves to be really top class, the big Cups races are right there on your doorstep – I can’t wait to get him going in Victoria”
Rider’s Opinion
Kozzi Asano rode him in his trial and race and says “John and Mark, Zedwilldo is a real genuine staying type – he is still untapped in my opinion but has a lovely relaxed action and will stay all day”
Syndicator’s view (John Galvin)
“We love the staying types and we know our clients do too – we have had good success with the tried stayers we have bought in the past, Leaderboard (Wellington Cup winner), Chance To Dance (5th in Sydney Cup) and the winner of two Stakes races in NZ), Khafeef and No Envy have all won for us and this fellow really caught my eye with his physicality and lovely relaxed galloping action – we had to beat off a bit of competition to secure him, but we are very happy to have him in the Fortuna Team”
