Fortuna Racing, in conjunction with one of the best judges anywhere in the world, David Ellis, secured this Filly for NZ$150,000 on Day One of the NZ Bloodstock Karaka Yearling Sale
Physical Type
An early foal (11th of September 2023), she is a good medium size, has a lovely relaxed athletic walk and ticked all of the boxes of our inspection team of David Ellis, Mark Walker, Reece Trumper and Marcus Corban
Yearling Filly by Savabeel out of Lady Tatia
Pedigree
By Savabeel, the veteran Sire of close to 1000 winners, including 149 Stakes Winners and 33 Group One winners and a nine time Champion Stallion – and out of the winning racemare Lady Tatia (Duke of Marmalade) who won twice in Australia and who has had two foals to the races, including the three time winner and Group 3placed Belle Of The Ball
Mark Walker says
“John, this Filly ticks all the boxes – an early foal, she is beautifully proportioned, has a great walk and looks like she will run early – I know you had to extend a bit to secure her, but I am rapt that Sam and I can get to train her for the Fortuna Team – we trained the full sister, Belle Of The Ball and she was a very good galloper – we have had so much success over the years with the progeny of Savabeel and I’m sure that can continue with this beautiful Filly”
David Ellis says
“John, this Filly was great buying at this price – we paid $300k for her full sister Belle Of The Ball at the 2020 Sale – at inspections she presented as a real quality Filly, with a deep girth, a lovely walk and plenty of scope to grow and develop.”
“We have been always been admirers of the progeny of Savabeel – however given his Champion stallion status over many years and the Fortuna philosophy of “buying to budget”, it has not been easy to secure a nice Savabeel Filly in recent years – however we did secure one at this sale – we did have to push out the boat a little bit on our budget in order to get her, but we are happy to have done so with this lovely Filly”
Karaka Millions Race Series
She will be registered for the Karaka Millions series and will therefore be eligible to race in the two year-old event for NZ$1m in January 2026 and NZ$1.5m three year-old event in January 2027 – she will also be eligible for the $4m NZ Kiwi Slot Race as a three year-old in 2027 – and a reminder that a daughter of Savabeel, Damask Rose. won this year’s edition of the Karaka Million 3yo and is now one of the favourites for the inaugural NZ Kiwi
