This lovely Filly was acquired by David Ellis on behalf of Fortuna Racing at the 2024 Magic Millions Gold Coast National Yearling Sale – this after David, in conjunction with fellow thoroughbred selector, Marcus Corban and Fortuna’s NZ Trainer, Mark Walker, had conducted extensive research and on site physical inspections. As always, our focus was very much on type and any Fillies that made the shortlist needed to have ticked several boxes before they could be on the list. We also had a budget and we are firm on not going above budget. Our budget for this sale was A$70,000 and we managed to secure this lovely Filly for A$57,500  – remarkably the last time we paid that price for a Filly, she went on to win 14 Group One races – I refer to Melody Belle of course

Pedigree

This Filly’s Sire, Hellbent, is an emerging Stallion on the make – with just three crops racing he  is  a Top 10 Stallion on the Australian General Sire list in the current season. A Sire son of the mighty I Am Invincible, he was a powerful Sprinter himself as a racehorse, with seven race day victories to his name, including the William Reid Stakes at Group One level. He has sired 106 winners from 200 runners and is the Sire of the dual Group One winner, Magic Time

The Dam, Beside You (by Ready’s Image) won 3 times in succession in Australia, including two wins as a 2yo – this is a strong International family with strong 2yo form over successive generations

Physical type

This Filly, whom we have given the Stable Name “Linda” is a beautiful walking Filly of good size and scope. She certainly ticked all of the usual boxes we look for when trying to select genuine, athletic types.

Preparation and Racing Plans

This Filly will travel to NZ shortly and on arrival, she will have a short paddock spell at Te Akau Stud, then get broken in, followed by  an initial preparation at the Matamata Stables of Te Akau Racing, under the watchful eye of Mark Walker/Sam Bergerson, then a further paddock spell before undertaking a more serious stable preparation which should culminate in a late Spring/early summer trial and our expectation, all going well, is that she would make her raceday debut early in 2025

“John, great buying with this Hellbent Filly, she is a really nice, athletic type of good size, is very forward  and out of a strong International family that has produced a lot of 2yo runners. Her dam, Beside You, had three wins in succession, including two as a 2yo.  Her Sire, Hellbent, is having a very good season on the racetrack with his runners headed up by the Group One winner in Melbourne, Magic Time and is a young Stallion on the upward move. I really liked this Filly’s physical attributes and she will come to hand very quickly I am picking. She represents great value at the price you paid for her.”

Magic Millions Race Series

Note that “Linda” is registered for the Magic Millions Race Series – this is a Series of 28 races in total each season with prizemoney worth over A$20m – here are the races she will be eligible to be nominated for at the Magic Million’s Race Days

• January 2025 – the A$3m Magic Millions Classic for 2yo’s 1200m
• May 2025  – the A$1m National 2yo Classic 1000m
• January 2026 – the A$3m Magic Millions Guineas
• January 2026 – the A$3m 1100m 3yo Sprint – note this is a new race 
• Subsequent years she will be eligible for any of the A$1m races for older horses on the Magic Millions Carnival Day

Note that only horses that have been acquired at a MM Sale and have been enrolled for the Race Series are eligible to be nominated for these races – Of course, given the prizemoney on offer, all of these races are well sought after and all runners that wish to accept are graded by ratings points

Terms

• Shares available right down to 1%.
• 10% share is $12,000, 5% share $6,000, 2.5% share $3,000, 1% share $1,200 – with ongoing costs from 1 August 2024 @$50 per month per each 1% share
• Initial Capital includes Purchase Price, NZ GST on entry to NZ, Promoters Fees, Insurance to 31 Jan 2025, Magic Millions Race Series Fee, Airfreight to NZ and working capital of over $7k
• Monthly ongoing costs from 1st August 2024 – from that date ongoing costs are – 10% share $500 per month – 5% share $250 per month – 2.5% share $125 per month – 1% share $50 per month.
• Monthly ongoing costs can alternatively be paid up to 12 months in advance as an option for subscribers by Bank  Payment or Credit Card
