Sold Out
The 2yo Gelding, FLEET FOOTED, is by one of Australia’s leading Stallion at Stud, Zoustar, and is out of the Stakes winning Mare Fox Swift – he has been acquired by Fortuna Racing for A$50,000 from the April (late) Inglis Digital Sale. Originally purchased with the aim of sending him to Singapore to race, the momentous announcement that racing in Singapore will come to an end in October 2024 has caused us to rethink and he will now be retained in Australia to pursue a racing career. He is now in Victoria where he has entered the pre-training facility of Matt Upton at Widden Stud – Matt will bring him along steadily for the next few weeks and FLEET FOOTED will be one of the first horses to enter Te Akau Racing’s new stables at Cranbourne and will be trained there by the nine time Premiership winning trainer, Mark Walker.

FLEET FOOTED is a rising 3yo, has trialed four times but had no race day starts. As a Maiden galloper therefore he will be eligible to contest Maiden races on debut and any Three Year Old Class race (apart from Fillies only races) that he qualifies for.
Pedigree
FLEET FOOTED has a very strong Pedigree page – bred and sold by Widden Stud for A$550k at the 2022 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, he is by one of premier Australia’s Stallions in ZOUSTAR (2023 Stud Fee A220k), the Sire of over 370 winners, including 35 Stakes winners. FLEET FOOTED’s Dam Fox Swift (by Foxwedge) won 3 times at 1100m and 1200m including the Listed VRC Cap d’Antibes Stakes at Flemington – FLEET FOOTED is her first foal

Training & Race History
FLEET FOOTED was bought as yearling by the powerful Newgate Farm/China Horse Club/Trilogy Racing Colt Partnership, clearly with “Stallion making” prospects in mind. Prepared by Annabelle Neasham at Randwick, he trialed once in the Spring, was put aside, trialed twice more in the Autumn, but proving to be very colty and needing to be gelded, he was put on the market by his ownership group as they have a policy of only racing Colts.
Physical Type
Standing at 15.3 hands high and tipping the scales at 490kgs, FLEET FOOTED is a lovely physical type – he passed his vetting inspection (conducted by Dr Derek Wong) with no issues– he scoped before and after exercise at Grade One, had no vices and trotted up in very sound condition. Still a Colt when we took possession, he has now been gelded
Syndicator’s View
John Galvin comments on this latest acquisition
“This is a well worn path for us of course – our year in, year out success over the past few years with the great bulk of our Singapore acquisitions has revolved around buying just this type of horse. Fleet Footed has a profile that is very typical of most of the horses we have bought off the Inglis Digital platform in the past five years or so. A very well bred 2yo that was owned by a high profile Ownership Group, clearly with a Stallion career in mind, he showed after trialing three times that he needed to be gelded and as their business model is “Stallion making” they made the decision to move him on. Horses we have acquired in recent years of this profile are Federation (6 Singapore wins), Brutus (5 Singapore wins), Entertainer (7 Singapore wins), King Arthur (9 Singapore wins), Red Rover (3 Singapore wins), Elliot Ness and Deception (2 Singapore wins each) and our most recent winner Knippenberg (2 wins). We have also acquired for NZ Racing, Mohawk Brave (3 wins) and Navalha (2 wins). This will be our first foray into Australian racing with this type of horse, but the challenge holds no fears”
Click HERE to see his trial footage from April 14th – Fleet Footed is in the red and yellow China Horse Club Silks – as you will see he shows good gate speed, travels well, leads into the straight and then run down closing stages. Rider report after this trial was
“Nice actioned Colt, has good gate speed, but still lacks maturity at this stage and would definitely benefit from gelding.”
Trainers Views
Fortuna’s NZ and soon to be Australian based Trainer, Mark Walker has reviewed his form, parade and trial replay and says
“John, you and I in the past have honed the selection techniques to find the right sort of horses out of these Online Sales. A high priced yearling, he clearly caught the eyes of several good judges, has been well prepared by a top trainer, but needing to be gelded, he no longer fits their model. His most recent trial had a lot of merit, but clearly is still a bit immature and so gelding him now and giving him a good break to mature and develop will be the making of him. I am excited to have him as one of the first horses to join our new Stable at Cranbourne”
We also asked the well known Robbie Hewittson, who is our “eyes and ears” in the Sydney racing scene to gather some stable intelligence on Fleet Footed. Robbie reports
“lovely Colt with a good action and plenty of size and scope, but is a bit of a handful at the stable and badly needs gelding.”
