BRIGGS has been identified by Champion Singapore Trainer, Mark Walker as an ideal type for Singapore Racing

Now a Three Old Gelding, BRIGGS was acquired as a yearling by the China Horse Club/Newgate partnership, who fancied him as a Stallion prospect due to his very strong pedigree, for A$220,000 at the 2020 Magic Million Yearling Sale. However after  trials and three race day starts and showing signs of real coltyness, his ownership group decided to sell him unreserved, as they do not race geldings, preferring to focus on Stallion prospects

Fortuna acquired BRIGGS at the May 2021 Inglis Online Sale for just A$42,500. He exited Singapore quarantine 20th August –  he is now being prepared to race by Fortuna’s Three Time Champion Singapore Trainer, Mark Walker and should be ready to have his first race in Singapore late November 2021 in Restricted Maiden Grade for S$75,000

  • As a non winner BRIGGS will be eligible to contest Restricted Maiden Grade events in Singapore, a Grade which carries S$75,000 of prizemoney (approx NZ$80,000 – depending on current exchange rate). Once winning in that Grade, he will then be eligible to race in Novice Grade, a Grade which also carries S$75,000 of prizemoney (approx NZ$80,000 – depending on current exchange rate). As a Three Year Old in the 2021/2122 Season BRIGGS will be eligible for the very lucrative Three Year Old Series run during May and June 2022
BRIGGS– By Rubick out of High Ace – Singapore 6th August

Pedigree

BRIGGS possesses a very solid pedigree. He is by the successful Stallion, Rubick  who was the leading Sire of 3yos in Australia in the 2019/20 season, is the Sire of 99 individual winners, the Sire of YES YES YES,  the 2020 Everest winner. Rubick is also the Sire of the successful Fortuna Singapore 3yo Brutus.   BRIGGS’ Dam, High Ace (by Red Dazzler) is a four time winner on the track in Australia – she is dam of two named foals with one winner (3 wins in Queensland)

Training & race history

BRIGGS was prepared by Sydney based Trainers, Paul and Peter Snowden– he had one trial in Sydney in the Spring of 2020, before making his raceday debut in a $250k Stakes race, finishing a respectable 6th in strong company. Needing time to mature, he was freshened, trialed twice in March/April with his 2nd trial being a winning one. He then had two further race day starts in April and May, finishing 7th at Hawkesbury in April and a commendable 4th at Wyong in May

Physical type

A strong, handsome, athletic Bay Gelding, standing 16.1 hands high and weighing 510kgs,  BRIGGS  is hard to fault physically – he passed his Singapore entry Vet examination performed on 25th May with flying colours. Australian bred Sprinting/Miler types have had an exceptional record in Singapore over the years.

Trainer’s view (Mark Walker)

I found Briggs’ trial and races a good watch – he ran very well on debut in a strong Stakes race, but clearly needed some time to mature, hence his spell at that point – on resuming, he ran respectably in his trials and races, but our spies tell us that he badly needed gelding – that has now been done and he can only improve off that procedure – John Galvin and I have bought several horses of this profile over the past couple of years and all have gone well in Singapore – he has a bright future up here.”

  Syndicator’s view (John Galvin)

“Mark Walker and I have been making a bit of an art form of selecting well bred tried horses at “budget” prices over the last two to three years – Federation, Red Rover, Hadeer, Brutus, Entertainer, Elliot Ness and King Arthur all being good examples. Now that he has been gelded and enjoying a good paddock spell in NSW, we believe he can do a good job for us in Singapore – he is an extraordinary physical type who, now having been gelded, should benefit immensely from the regime we have applied since acquiring him”
