Fortuna acquires outstanding Savabeel Filly at Karaka May Sale – named “TAM O’SHANTER”

Living up to its reputation as a Syndicator of “quality” well bred fillies but acquired at “value” prices, Fortuna, with the assistance of its Thoroughbred Selection Team of David Ellis and Jamie Richards, acquired this stunning  rising 2yo Filly daughter of Savabeel, when she was knocked down to David Ellis bid of $110,000 at the Karaka May Sale.

Registered for both the $1m Karaka Million for Two Year olds (run in January 2019) and the $1m Karaka 3yo Classic (run in January 2020) – this Filly represents compelling value acquired at a knock down price only slightly higher than the Champion Stallion Savabeel’s Service Fee of $100,000.

Bred on the same cross (by Savabeel out of a Volksraad Mare) as New Zealand’s current highest rated galloper, KAWI, TAM O’SHANTER has an excellent pedigree which will stand her in good stead as a broodmare prospect at the end of her racing career.

Trainer’s View from Jamie Richards

“John, you have scored another beauty here – only on the market because the breeder is seriously ill, I just loved this Filly from the moment I set eyes on her. She has size and scope, a strong pedigree, by a Champion Stallion in Savabeel and out of a very strong Female Line. I think she will be a runner as a Two year Old and we will give her every chance to qualify for the Karaka Million – but I think she will be even better as a Three Years Old – Steve and I are really looking forward to getting her into the Stable”

Syndicator’s View from John Galvin;

“I just love buying this sort of Filly for our clients – she ticks all the boxes physically and has a pedigree that will stand her in good stead as a broodmare prospect at the end of her racing career and again, we have managed to secure a high quality type without paying the earth.”
