About Us

Thoroughbred Racing Syndicate Specialists

Fortuna is one of New Zealand’s leading racehorse syndication companies – it offers shares in high-quality racehorses.

Our members make an initial contribution towards a syndicate when joining and they then own a percentage stake in the horse owned by that syndicate. Ownership of this stake means that Syndicate Members will share in the potential rewards of the horse’s racing success.

As a Thoroughbred Syndicator authorised by New Zealand Thoroughbred Racing, Fortuna adheres to a strict Code of Practice and delivers high quality services to its clients while its close association with Te Akau Racing Stables (one of the most successful training establishments in New Zealand and Singapore) underlines its commitment to deliver outstanding results.

Fortuna was founded in 2007 to enable individuals an easy access and cost-effective route to racehorse ownership.

Director of Fortuna, John Galvin, has had a life-long passion for and involvement in the thoroughbred industry. He is driven by the philosophy of making thoroughbred racing accessible, and enabling people to be involved in the thrill and excitement of owning and racing high quality bloodstock.

Racehorse selection

Fortuna has a close association with Te Akau Racing Stables and entrusts the selection of its thoroughbred horses to a very professional and skilled team, including one of New Zealand’s most successful and astute racehorse buyers, Te Akau Principal David Ellis, leading NZ based Trainer Mark Walker and well-known expat Kiwi trainer based in Singapore, Donna Logan

Racehorse training

Fortuna aligns itself with one of New Zealand’s and Singapore’s leading and most respected training establishment, Te Akau Racing Stables, headed up in NZ by Mark Walker, a five time NZ Champion Trainer. Mark is also  a four time Singapore Champion Trainer as well. Our Singaore Trainer, Donna Logan, is currently joint leader in the Singapore Training Premiership

Fortuna’s best ever horse, Melody Belle, was twice named Horse Of The Year and retired with 14 Group One victiries to her name, a New Zeland record and stakes earning of NZ$4.2m

Fortuna horses have had thirty five wins from 184  starts in New Zealand , Australia and Singapore in the 2022 calendar year – a strike rate of 5.25.

Administration & management

Fortuna uses state of the art database and accounting systems to make its record keeping and reporting as seamless as possible.

Director of Fortuna and Syndicates Manager, John Galvin, brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the Fortuna administration and management role. John has a highly successful background in the financial services sector and a lifelong interest in thoroughbred racing, having raced a number of successful gallopers prior to establishing Fortuna in 2007. John lives in Hamilton with his wife, Jessica and their three young children, James, Jasmine and Joshua.

Jessica Galvin has a busy life, being a mother of three young children, but also holding down the very important role as Head Administrator at Fortuna. Working from home, Jessica is in tune with twenty first century technology, and provides valuable support to John and the hundreds of Fortuna clients.

“My Experience with Fortuna has been positive and enjoyable. I have nothing but praise for the all round excellence and quality of service that I have received since joining my first Fortuna Syndicate in 2012, In particular, I appreciate the consistent flow of information from John and Jessica Galvin.

I have subsequently become a member of several other Fortuna syndicates. Moreover, I wouldn’t even consider joining a syndicate with any other organisation.

I consider Fortuna the very best way to horse ownership for a modest outlay and at the same time a realistic expectation of enjoyment and profit. It is a great system which allows you to leave the work to Fortuna, and sit back and enjoy the rewards.”
