COSMIC SANDS has been identified by Champion Singapore Trainer, Mark Walker as an ideal type for Singapore Racing and in particular a likely prospect for the Singapore Derby (1800m S$400k) run in July 2022
Now a Three Old Gelding (turning Four on 1 August 2021), COSMIC SANDS was raced by prominent owners, A R E Investments and trained by John Thompson at Randwick. Trialing 5 times as a 2yo, he made his race day debut in August as a 3yo and won a Maiden race at Scone at his 4th start in September. He was put aside for a break after racing once more in October, trialed twice in March 2021 before resuming in April and he won at Canberra over 1460 metres at his 3rd start after resuming. After this win and determining that their horse was not up to Sydney Metropolitan Class racing, his owners put him up for sale on Inglis Digital late May
Mark Walker acquired COSMIC SANDS at the May 2021 Inglis Online Sale for just A$19,000. This after one of his Singapore based clients had instructed him to “buy me a horse that can run in the Singapore Derby” Mark was taken by COSMIC SANDS pedigree being by Pride Of Dubai out of a winning Galileo Mare plus, when Mark watched all of his races, he formed the conclusion that COSMIC SANDS was still very immature as a 3yo and would only improve with time. As things turned out Mark’s Singapore client decided not to proceed and accordingly Mark offered the horse to Fortuna and after conducting our own due diligence, we proceeded.
COSMIC SANDS is now in full training – he is being prepared to race by Fortuna’s Singapore Trainer Mark Walker and should be ready to have his first race in Singapore late November 2021.
COSMIC SANDS possesses a very solid pedigree. He is by the successful Stallion, Pride of Dubai who won the Group One Blue Diamond as a 2yo, was the leading 1st Season Sire in Australia in 2019/20 and is the Sire of over 71 winners. COSMIC SANDS Dam, Galileo’s Daughter (by Galileo) was a winner on the track in Australia at 1850 metres and was Group One placed twice (2nd in the Arrowfield Stud Stakes and 3rd in the Australian Turf Club Derby) – she is dam of six foals to the race with four winners.

PHYSICAL TYPE
A strong, handsome, athletic Bay Gelding, standing 16.1 hands high and weighing 510kgs, COSMIC SANDS is hard to fault physically – he passed his Singapore entry Vet examination performed on 11th June with flying colours. Standing over a bit of ground, he gives the impression that time will be his friend as he continues to fill into his frame

Trainer’s view (Mark Walker)
“Looking for a type that could run a trip, COSMIC SANDS pedigree was very appealing and as I reviewed his races as a 3yo, it was very clear that he still had a way to go with his development and maturity and was definitely looking for more ground. I had set a budget of A$50k to acquire this horse, so it was satisfying to get him for a lot less than that. Enjoying a good long paddock spell in NSW now ahead of his travel to Singapore in August, I think he will be an ideal type to set for the Singapore Derby in 12 months time.”
Syndicator’s view (John Galvin)
“Mark Walker and I have been working together since 2003 when he trained my first Te Akau trained winner, Kapsdan – since then he has trained close to 100 winners for me both in NZ and Singapore – Mark has a great eye for a horse and has an uncanny ability to look at a horse’s physical characteristics today and assess what he or she can turn into in 12 months time”
