Fortuna has eight runners Saturday and Monday – three in NZ and five in Singapore
New Zealand
Charmaine‘s Dream is in the Rating 65 1200 (race one at 12:05) at Ellerslie – this smart three-year-old Filly impressed when winning a maiden race at Tauranga this trip fifth of April – difficult draw here from barrier 12, but has the classy Lisa Allpress aboard – she presents as a top three chance if she gets luck in the running
Khafeef starts in the Rating 74 and Jumpers 2500 at Riccarton (race six at 2:05) – a genuine staying type by Champs Elysee, this horse has caught the eye of many with his strong finishing performances last three starts over shorter trips – up to 2500m here on the roomy Riccarton track, carries the minimum of 54 kg and is in the hands of the talented Kozzi Asano. Up in class here but has the credentials to be a top three finish in this event
TAB Tipster says “That was a dashing performance from rear previous. Not risking horse or stable”
Rhapsody in Blue races at Avondale Monday 26th in the rating 74 1200 (race six at 3:07) – a solid run for 4th same grade, same trip at Ellerslie last start after not getting the sweetest trip – has a nice barrier, is down in the weights and with Joe Kamarrudin’s 3kg claim will only carry 51.5. She certainly has the ability to feature here
Singapore
Sportscaster contests the Class five 2000 (race one at 4pm NZT) – impressive last start winner last Sunday, he is up five ratings points but gets to carry 1 kg less here – will be ridden again by leading Singapore rider K Hakim who claims 2kgs – a dour staying type, he will love this trip – is on a quick back up but has coped with that before – meets a stronger field but presents as a good each way chance here
Here is what the Singapore Turf Club tipsters have to say about this race
1st Pick: HWASONG (7)
Looks a likely type in a race of this nature and comes from a stable who do well with stayers.
2nd Pick: SUPER ATAS (5)
An interesting runner now over this trip and is still lightly-raced.
3rd Pick: SPORTSCASTER (8)
Up five points for winning last week and now switches to the turf. Place chance.
4th Pick: BILLY BRITAIN (6)
A 10-time winner and could go nicely at this level and over this trip.
Elliot Ness contests the Restricted Maiden 1100 on the Polytrack (race two at 4:30) – Placed second in each of his two Singapore starts to date, he had a dominant trial win recently – has drawn well, Singapore Champion rider Vlad Duric in the saddle – looks to be a strong winning chance here
Here is what the Singapore Turf Club tipsters have to say about this race
1st Pick: ELLIOT NESS (4)
Only found the smart Lim’s Kosciuszko too good last time out. He has since bolted up in a trial and would seem like the horse to beat on form in this. Nice horse going forward.
2nd Pick: GOLDEN WAY (5)
Twice raced maiden who was sixth in the Group 3 Singapore Golden Horseshoe at only his second start. A recent trial win was impressive and should be bang in there for a new stable.
3rd Pick: SAHABAT (9)
Has shown better form on this surface and won a trial in good time over Lim’s Kosciuszko recently to suggest a big show is expected.
4th Pick: SKYLIGHT (12)
Disappointing on debut (connections suggesting she would benefit from experience when providing an explanation for performance). Has trialled well since. Interesting.
King Arthur, on debut, is also in Race 2 – a strong trial winner recently, he has drawn barrier 13 in this event which will make it very hard for him – he will go back from the draw and we are expecting a strong finish from him, however will need a lot of luck to be able to feature in the finish
Showbound is in the Class five 1200 on the Polytrack (race 4 at 5:30) – has drawn nicely in this event at barrier six with Vlad Duric aboard – 13 Singapore starts to date without winning, but has run into prizemoney placings 11 times – well suited here and can feature in the first three
Here is what the Singapore Turf Club tipsters have to say about this race
1st Pick: ST ALWYN (10)
Still yet to win from 16 career starts but has run second three times over this course and distance and perhaps now is the time he gets the head in front.
2nd Pick: HAPPY FRIDAY (2)
The sixth placed-finish behind Optimum Star was much better than it looks on paper and with a clearer run here, he can go awfully close.
3rd Pick: SHOWBOUND (9)
Had the misfortune to bump into a well prepped recent trial winner last time out, has a nice weight here and is one for the exotics.
4th Pick: YES ONE BALL (8)
Ronaldo‘s Dream races in the Class four 1400 Turf (race nine at 8pm) – a dominant winner on debut in Singapore last July, he did not get all favours from a wide draw in his resuming run off a long injury break two weeks ago, however steps up to 1400, gets barrier five, has leading rider Hakim claiming 2kgs in the saddle and looks very well-placed here – This son of Darci Brahma is a talented type and Presents as a strong each way chance and can win
Here is what the Singapore Turf Club tipsters have to say about this race
1st Pick: BE YOU (2)
Fought with great determination to score over the same course and distance at his last outing. Takes on open company but should still come through on current form.
2nd Pick: RELENTLESS (5)
Attacked the line too late last time. Will strip fitter for this. Solid claims.
3rd Pick: SAVVY COMMAND (1)
From a wide gate, had to do some work to sit outside the leader last time out. Overraced midrace as well. Punctured but still stuck on bravely for fourth. Has drawn an alley this time. Can make amends.
4th Pick: RONALDO’S DREAM (7)
Fortuna trackwork this week – Matamata
Tuesday 20th April
Rhapsody In Blue (D Johnson) galloped over 1000 metres in 1.06.8, home in 38.5.
Thursday 22nd April
Rhapsody In Blue (D Johnson) galloped over 1000 metres, running the last 600 in 39.
Leaderboard (S Parmar) worked at three quarter pace over 1200 metres in 1.33, final 600 in 46.
