Fortuna to have two runners at Avondale on Anzac Day
================================================
Fortuna has two runners this weekend, both in Singapore
Singapore
ELLIOT NESS races in the Class 4 1100m Poly – race 3 @ 1.15 Sing time (5.15pm NZT) and will be ridden by Stable apprentice, Jamil, claiming 4kgs from a mid field barrier. A bold 2nd this grade from a wide barrier draw last start, it should be noted that this horse holds the track record this trip and distance. Represents a strong each way chance here and can win
Here is what the STC tipsters have to say about this race;
1st Pick: CITY GOLD STAR (4)
Steadied on heels shortly after the start and had to race wide on debut. Should strip much fitter from that run and the new stable are off to a good start.
2nd Pick: GREATHAM GIRL (1)
Drops in grade and returns to her suited surface. Last time she raced in this grade she won over this distance back in October and looks well placed here.
3rd Pick: TEARDROPS (6)
Caught the eye last start and fair to say the wide barrier cost her in the end. Was caught in a bumping duel down the straight and just needs luck. Draws better this weekend and hopefully her luck turns around.
4th Pick: ELLIOT NESS (9)
Lightweight each way chance who currently holds the course record over this distance. Solid run last start shows he is ready to win again soon. One to follow.
TRIDENT contests the Group Two E W Barker Trophy 1400m Turf – Race 11 @ 5.25pm Sing time (9.25pm NZT) and will be ridden by Apprentice N Zyrul, claiming 2kgs from Barrier 7 in a 13 horse field. An “up and comer” in Singapore with 3 wins and 3 2nds from just 9 starts, this 4yo son of Deep Field, who raced 3 times for us as “Polaris” in NZ, is the lowest rated runner in this race and meets a high quality field here. However, he has been allocated just 50kgs and brings last start winning form to this race. Will need everything to go right, but if it does, he can feature in the placings here.

Fortuna to have two runners at Avondale on Anzac Day
Yes, two interesting Fortuna runners this day. Firstly RAGAMUFFIN. This 4yo gelded son of Belardo caught the eyes of punters when winning two in a row as a 3yo in the Autumn of 2022, but then required surgery to remove a bone chip – the surgery was routine, but he suffered some post operative complications which resulted in him being out of training for several months. Now back in work, he trialed nicely for 4th placing at Avondale 11th April and will resume in the R75 1200 at the same venue on the 25th
INCA BELLE was another who caught punter’s eyes, winning three times from her first three starts before getting run off her feet on a firm track at Awapuni 1st April in the 3yo 1200m event. This attractive daughter of Per Incanto was doing her best work late in the run, indicating she was looking for 1400m so gets her opportunity on the 25th in the 3yo 1400m event that day

Here is what Des says for this week;
Hi John and Team – Before we launch into this weekend’s bet a quick review on my pick Millefiori at Te Rapa. I watched the race closely and she was clearly awkward out of the barrier and seemed to change stride near the 800m when the pace slackened. That didn’t help and neither did the slight bump which may well have dented her concentration because it was a battling performance over the final stages. To be honest I really did expect the horse to do better but I see trainer Mark Walker is trekking her to Awapuni where she’s engaged in the ITM Anzac Mile on Sunday.
Millefiori is seasoned and rock hard fit and I will be having something on her each way at the $7 and $2.50 each way price. There will be some rain on Friday and Saturday and the track will be fairly wet at Awapuni but that won’t be a problem for her. I see “Smiling Joe” has returned the ride and he will be determined to put things right!
In saying all this, Millefiori is mainly my secondary bet for Fortuna readers. My main bet will be at Pukekohe in the Trelawney Stud Championship Stakes. Arby is a three year old going places. His run in the Levin Classic at Trentham was huge and I was pleased with the way he backed up at Awapuni and won in the style of a horse that is clearly on the climb.There’s a strong chance he will be heading to Brisbane for the group one Queensland Derby and Saturday’s run will be a stepping stone to stardom the way I read this weekends race.
I’ll be aiming high, in our out, on the nose at $3.50 this weekend and if I come unstuck the insurance bet will be Millefiori on Sunday.
Good punting. Des
