A brilliant outcome for New Zealand racing at Singapore's Kranji racecourse on Sunday 11th June when NZ's leading jockey, Opie Bosson, kicked home the NZ bred, Race Ahead (Al Akbar-Mertie Love), to win the S$1,15m Singapore Derby. To add icing to the cake, the successful trainer was former NZ jockey/ trainer and now Singapore domiciled, Bruce Marsh.
Opie is no stranger to winning big races in Singapore, having ridden the winner of the Group One Singapore Gold Cup on a previous occasion.
Opie had travelled to Singapore only last Thursday to ride at two meetings on Friday and Sunday; while there he rode three winners in total, all for Bruce Marsh. He returns to NZ Monday 12th July.
Opie has been appointed as the Stable rider for Te Akau Racing Stables for the 2010/11 season and consequently, will be riding many of the Fortuna horses in the coming season.
Well done Opie!!!!!
